Course Description

LEVEL 5 CERTIFICATE IN EARLY LEARNING AND CARE STAGE 1 (5M21473) ONE YEAR

The Certificate in Early Learning and Care is the new standard for childcare education in Ireland. This one-year full-time course prepares students to work with young children aged 0-6 years. It is ideal for both school-leavers and experienced mature persons seeking a formal qualification. Successful students enjoy excellent employment prospects.

Students will complete work placement in a variety of childcare settings. As childcare is a position of trust, Garda Vetting is a prerequisite for the mandatory work placements on this course

Progression / Employment

Students will acquire the skills necessary to take up employment as a childcare or special needs assistant in a variety of childcare settings.

Students may be eligible to apply to the Advanced Certificate in Early Learning and Care Stage 2

Entry Requirements

Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent. All applicants must have two written references. Applications are welcome from mature students with relevant experience.

Applicants will be asked for copy EU Passport or GNIB card or Irish Residence Permit or Labour Market Permission letter.

For applicants whose first language is not English, evidence of English language proficiency may be required. If appropriate, Whitehall College of Further Education will conduct an English language assessment.

Garda Vetting Application Form will be completed at registration in September. Parent/Guardian consent form (for students who are under 18) will be completed at registration in September.
