LEVEL 5 CHILDCARE AWARD (DCHSC) 1 YEAR

This course will enable students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work with children with special needs as a Childcare/Special Needs Assistant in a creche, playgroup, after-school day care, or similar setting.

Students will develop skills and experience in the field of special needs with the selection of appropriate elective modules and work experience.

The focus of the course is to develop the interpersonal, social and practical skills necessary to work in early years special needs education.

Entry Requirements

Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied. All applicants must have two references relevant to social care and are subject to individual and group interview. Applications are welcome from mature students with relevant experience.

Progression/employment opportunities

Students will acquire the skills necessary to take up employment as a childcare or special needs assistant in a variety of childcare settings.

Students may be eligible to apply to Third Level Colleges through the Higher Education Links Scheme.
