admissions policy ...

Whitehall College of Further Education is governed by the rules and regulations of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

Admission to a particular course/activity in Whitehall College is subject to places being available at the time of application and is governed by three principles:

  • That, in the professional judgement of the School Authority (the term 'School Authority' as in these regulations, indicates the Chief Executive Officer or an officer delegated to act on her behalf), and following an interview the student/participant is deemed suitable for a particular course/activity.
  • That, in the professional judgement of the School Authority, the student/participant, because of previous education, training or experience, is considered likely to benefit from attendance on the course.
  • That the participant will contribute positively to the course/activity and in no way infringe upon the opportunities or rights of other students and/or staff.

A minimum number of participants are required for a course to proceed. Notice of cancellation of a course will be notified at the earliest time possible.

All disputes in relation to admission will be referred to the Chief Executive Officer. In advance of this course of action, unsuccessful applicants who feel dissatisfied with the process may appeal their situation, in the first instance, to the Principal.

The college operates an inclusive Admissions Policy, in line with CDVEC policy.  Inherent, in our Admissions policy is the principle of equality, particularly of access and participation.  Students with learning support needs are encouraged to provide the college with the relevant information at the time of application.  Such disclosure does not prejudice any application.  The college will try to provide appropriate supports and services, within the resource allocation, for those students accessing our courses.

Places on courses are offered on the basis that:

  1. they are offered on a first come first served basis
  2. there are places available on the course
  3. the applicant meets the entry requirements for the course

Suitability for enrolment on a course is determined by the college, based on application and interview.

Eligibility for VTOS is determined by the Department of Social and Family Affairs.

Only VTOS eligible students can be registered on a Core VTOS course.

See: VTOS Places
For core VTOS courses you must be VTOS eligible and receive a VTOS place to be able to do the course.

course charges ...

All our courses are funded under the National Development Plan and therefore there are no course fees. However, students are liable for the payment of a college charge. This covers the costs of student services, all examination and certification fees and charges for membership of professional bodies where applicable. Examination and Certification costs vary from course to course. Full details of these are available from the college. Fees payable to professional bodies are subject to alteration or increase. These changes are outside of our control and students will be advised as soon as the information is available. Non EU Nationals are charged fees as set by the Department of Education and Science - in addition to the course charges. Details are available from the college. Students are expected to bear the cost of their own textbooks and class materials.

A €50 deposit is required on acceptance of a place in the college. This is non-refundable. Balance of charges are due for payment at registration and will not be refunded except where a class does not form.
